The government of Anambra State, Nigeria has commended a non governmental organization; Marcel Ofomata Foundation for partnering the state government in her cultural preservation and attitudinal reorientation drive. The commendation was conveyed on behalf of the state government by the Honourable Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs, Indigenous Arts Work, Culture and Tourism - when he led government delegation on a courtesy visit to the Founder of Marcel Ofomata Foundation - Dr. Amaechi M. Ofomata at his home residence in Isuofia, Anambra State yesterday. In his speech, the Honourable Commissioner who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry - Tony Eze Nwaka stated that the Ministry received the news of a donation of a ROPED BRONZE to Igbo Ukwu Museum by the Founder of Marcel Ofomata Foundation - Dr. Amaechi M. Ofomata with utmost gratitude noting that it was a signal to many partnership possibilities in the future. He added that the Museum had been without the Artifacts for sometimes and appreciated Dr. Amaechi Ofomata for standing in the gab as a Cultural Ambassador In the State. The Commissioner while conveying the goodwill on behalf of the Ministry to Dr. Amaechi Ofomata informed the host that the Ministry was created Three years ago by the Governor - His Excellency, Willie Obiano with a mandate to create synergy between the State and the diaspora, accumulate/profile Indigenous Arts work associated to Igbo race and while advancing cultural and tourism drive in the state to boast economic investment. He expressed appreciation to Dr. Amaechi Ofomata for keying into government’s agenda and pledged to partner the Foundation in the Ministry’s upcoming cultural events in the state. In his response, the Founder of Marcel Ofomata Foundation - Dr Amaechi M. Ofomata while appreciating the Ministry for the courtesy visit stressed that he has enjoyed the privileges of being conducted round the Museum in many of his travels round the globe with great experiences of artifacts and needed to translate his experience to the advancing of similar campaign in his country. Dr. Ofomata who is also the Chairman of Amaecom Group of companies observed that the Igbo-Ukwu Museum in his home state is home to one of the finest artifact in Africa and he takes pride in showcasing it to his foreign and local partners whenever they are in Nigeria for an excursion. He however regretted the absence of one the finest artifact at the Museum - THE ROPED BRONZE during some of their visit to the Museum which spurred him to begin research and enquiry on how a replica can be made for the Museum. Dr Ofomata expressed satisfaction that two years later, through the services and expertise of Professors in Faculty of Arts at the University of Nigeria Nsukka the replacement was made in December 2018 and THE ROPED BRONZE was presented to the Curator of Anambra State Museum in an effort to preserve the Igbo culture. He expressed satisfaction that he is humbled to know that the effort has attracted the attention of the state government. He campaigned that “ a peoples’ culture is the only identity that defines and differentiate them as a people and charged every institutions, parents and stakeholders to do everything possible to preserve it from extinction”, Dr Ofomata stressed. Dr Ofomata while appreciating the Anambra state government for the honour called on people of goodwill to get involve and support Government in promoting and preserving cultural heritage. It is worthy to note that the Marcel Ofomata Foundation has undertaken other directional advocacies in the areas of Healthcare/free Annual Medical Missions, Academic scholarship, free revolving seed loan to rural women, Skills Acquisition programmes for the Youths, employment creation among others towards significantly building a better humanity.
